My Friend Gwen

Most mornings these days when I go for coffee, it is outdoors at a nice outdoor cafe nearby. As long as the sun is out & the temps warm - I'm there whenever possible. I have a great dog friend who comes almost every morning. Here she is, her name is Gwendolyn & she's about 8 years old. She is most even tempered dog I've ever met!

Sorry I've been out of touch! Summer is over, can you believe it?! I am still out of work and collecting unemployment ... yes, you heard me right, still collecting! I've spent most of my summer looking for a job, working out and catching rays.

I've done a lot of walking the past 2 days. Today I walked from the Broadway/Bleeker area to the Midtown East area (low 40's). Yesterday I walked from the West Village all the way up the west side (Hudson river Park) to West 42nd! It was beautiful!

What is with these new sitting areas in the middle of Broadway?! ... This is an accident waiting to happen, is it not? (the seating areas smack in the middle of Broadway from Times Square down to 23rd St. with traffic running on both sides). It's only a matter of time until there is a car accident and a person sitting around there is injured or worse. Am I right? What are your thoughts (Hobson)?

Facebook

So, I just recently joined & created a Facebook page. I resisted for a long time - but then one day last week I had 3 of my friends (on the same day) ask me if I had a Facebook page. I figured maybe it was about time I got up to speed.

I'm still learning my way around but I must admit I'm liking it quite a bit. I could even get used to using that instead of blogging. Just post bits & pieces of random crap up there (which is all I do here as we all know)!

I suppose the only down side is that it's not public & a person has to be a member of Facebook in order to see the stuff?

Thoughts?!

I am feeling soooooo much better now! I'm back to eating my usual foods! I even had a burrito today and am doing fine! Yippee! Now we're told it may not be tomatoes that are possibly the cause of salmonella, but perhaps jalapeƱos, along with possible things in salsa, like onion, cilantro, scallion - oye, what's a gal to eat?!

Full Of Crap

Literally. I've been full of it. Approximately 2 weeks ago I came down with a bad bout of something. Let's just call it a food borne illness. Did I have tomatoes? At some point, of course. I eat tomato and onion salads at home on a regular basis and I'm pretty sure I had at least one serving the week that story 1st broke. But I eat all sorts of things - it could have been anything, but it hit me - hard. First I had a fever for about a day & a half. Then abdominal pains and diarrhea (yes, which I know how to spell perfectly by now, all of the googling I've done). Then the pains went away and I was left with diarrhea - for close to 2 weeks. I'll spare major details, but it wasn't round the clock or anything - but it was there. I'm sure I set myself back days by not eating correctly for these problems at first, and then when I thought I was getting better, I'd eat something normal & have a set back.

On a positive note, I discovered probiotics. Right now I am at a point where I am settling back into solid food. Twenty four hours between craps! Woo hoo! Today I ate a 1/2 Pret sandwich of roast beef, arugula & parmigiana and for dinner I got some simple Chinese food - chicken, bokchoy & white sauce with rice. I ate it in 2 sittings about 1-1/2 hrs apart. (Same goes for the sandwich). The real test will be dinner w/mom tomorrow evening. Hopefully all will go well. If not, at least I'm spending the night in NJ - 20 mins drive from the restaurant, LOL.

I love the site Midtown Lunch.

They always have interesting tidbits of midtown eating info. Today I was alerted to free iced coffee (actually, free everything) at the new Joe and The Art of Coffee in the Graybar passage at Grand Central. Awesome!

Clinton Street Baking Company

I took myself out for breakfast this morning down to the lower east side and checked out Clinton Street Baking Company. I had heard about the awesome pancakes (blueberry or banana walnut) with warm maple butter and figured I'd give it the weekday try since ... well, since I can! Who needs to wait for an hour for weekend brunch!

It was delicious! I also stopped at Russ & Daughters for the 1st time & took home a little bit of chopped liver to try. We'll see if it's as good as Barney Greengrass!

Andromedia

I watched the entire 2 Part Andromedia Strain the other night (it was just ok) and the entire time I didn't realize that the reporter character was Eric McCormack from Will and Grace! I did say that he looked like a combo of John Stamos & Rob Lowe though!

Kathi Rolls

I ventured out for lunch today unsure of where I was heading. I remembered this post that I read a few days ago.

Midtown Lunch Kathi Rolls Arrive in Midtown East

I decided to stop in and ordered up 2 Potato Masala Kathi Rolls. It took quite a while for them to be ready (15 mins. perhaps?) but this was prime 1:15ish lunch time. They were WELL WORTH the wait and absolutely delicious - using both sauces all along the way. I will most definitely be back!!
